About Kista

Kista, a district of Stockholm which is a suburb to the north of the center. Often referred to as Sweden’s “Silicon Valley”, it is home to several headquarters of Swedish IT and tech companies and the Swedish offices of several international cooperations.

One of the largest is Ericsson to start with and some of the most prestigious tech and science schools have opened branches here. Among some big names being Tele2, IBM, CGI, Atea, Fujitsu, Philips, Huawei, and many more. The area also has a branch of KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm as well as the Swedish Defence Research Agency.

If you’re into tech, Kista is definitely the place to be. Apart from being an exceptional European IT center, Kista is one of the most diverse cultural melting pots in the Stockholm region.

With over 12.000 residents, Kista is just not offices or a commercial center. It is also a very big residential area. Kista is popular for having the best options for Corporate Apartments in Stockholm. Apartments that are suitable for everyone regardless of lifestyle and budget.

Area

To the north are the areas of Husby and Akalla, Rinkeby and Spånga are in the west, Helenelund and Sollentuna are in the east, and to the south. 

You can visit Igelbäcken Nature Reserve and Ursvik. The district is a well-connected with the highways E4 and E18 as well as access to both the metro and the commuter trains.

Metro & bus service

Kista is well connected to most of the city and Arlanda airport. Distance to Stockholm city center Drive to city – 15 min 14 kms

Kista is on the blue line on the Stockholm metro. One can go straight to Kungstragården on this line from Kista which is a beautiful part of the city. It’s a 10 min walk to Gamla Stan, Stockholm central station and the surrounding area. 

Kista is well connected by the city bus services to get around to all the neighboring areas including the airport. 

Distance to airports

Arlanda Airport (ARN) –  28 kilometers for both domestic and international flights.

Bromma Airport (BMA) 9 kilometers away with mostly domestic flights

Stockholm Skavsta Airport (NYO) 115 kilometers away with a few low-cost airlines.

Nearby Kista

A 10 minute bus ride from Kista you will find Tensta which is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Sweden.

Tensta Konsthall which is one of the most important museums for contemporary art in the country. In the 70’s, the City of Stockholm commissioned a large group of artists to make art pieces out of the metro stations throughout the whole length of the blue line. There is beautiful artwork on all the metro lines but the blue line stands out as the one with the most celebrated pieces.

Husbybadet has a 25 m tempered training pool as well as a gym and jacuzzi.

Food and groceries

This neighborhood is home to grocery stores and markets stocked with items and food from all over the world. It is a 10 min bus ride to Tensta which also has some very good restaurants to chose from.

Järvabadet - Swimming pools

Ärvinge Bollplan - Football ground

Ärvinge Bollplan is the football field located at the edge of the residential area. It uses artificial turf and is in use most of the year. There is a small stand that can take around 250 spectators. Read more

Kista Gallerian

Kista Galleria became one of the largest shopping malls in Stockholm when it was renovated in 2002. The mall was opened already in 1977 and is located directly between the residential and the office area.

This is also where the metro station is. The mall has many shops and restaurants, even though it has been severely affected by the covid-19 pandemic as well as the competition from the nearby Mall of Scandinavia in Solna.

Igelbäcken Culture Reserve

Ärvinge Änger

Ärvinge Ängar is the green field right to the south of Kista. These fields are a popular destination during the summers, with many locals out for barbeques, gatherings or just to enjoy some sunshine. This is also the location for a football field with two goals.

Eggeby Gård & Järva Folkets Park

Eggeby Gård is one of the area’s old farms and was mentioned as early as the 14th century. Many of the buildings here date back to the early parts of the 20th century. The farm is since 1976 used as Järva Folkets Park, a park for the locals used for events and other gatherings. Read more

Gläntan

Gläntan is the central park area. This is where you can find green fields, spots for barbeques, and activities for kids. After all, this is where the large public playground is located. The playground was renovated in 2021 and is split into three parts – one for the older kids, one for the small ones, and one part with swings. Read more

Järvafältet

One of the most beautiful destinations in the Stockholm area is undoubtedly Järvafältet. It is a large and very well kept nature reserve that surrounds most of Kista. Here you will find several lakes, beautiful hills and old estates as well as well preserved old-growth forest areas. Read more

Kista Sience Tower

Victoria Tower

The Scandic Victoria Tower is a skyscraper hotel in the Kista district of Stockholm, Sweden. It is also known as the Victoria Tower, however the Scandic name is used to distinguish it from the Victoria Tower that forms the southwest end of the Palace of Westminster. The 117 metre hotel is one of the tallest buildings in Stockholm, as well as the tallest hotel in Scandinavia.

Kista Torn

Kista Torn is a pair of residential buildings. The smaller of the two towers has 16 floors and reaches a height of 60 meters. The main tower is 120 meters high with its 35 floors. This makes it the fourth highest building in Stockholm today. But it was the highest residential building in the city from its completion in 2016 until the completion of Norra Tornen in 2018.

Kista Convention center

Kista Convention Center, Kistamässan in Swedish, is right next to Victoria Tower. The 15.000 square meters of space is used for fairs and other events. This was also one of the locations in Stockholm that were used during the vaccinations for Covid-19. The center is managed by Easyfairs Group.
